The property comprises a detached former Methodist Zion Church, which has been extended and adapted over the years to provide a Place of Worship, together with assembly area, ancillary space, and car parking. The original Church was built in or around 1881 and was extended at a later date, in or around the 1930s, and is of solid brick construction with two flying buttresses to the left-hand elevation, with a pitched roof overclad with slate tiles. The extensions to the rear of the main Church are of cavity brick walls, with a small, pitched roof covering, and two areas of flat roof with an asphalt covering.
The Chapel is open to eaves with exposed timber beams and painted plastered ceiling, with two vertical cast-iron support columns, carpeted floor, part-timber boarding to the lower walls, fixed seating, central heating radiators, and suspended lighting.
Towards the eastern gable is a balcony with fixed pews, and accommodates the original organ. Under the balcony is the former Vestry, to entrance lobby, and boiler room.
The principal access to the building is via a comparatively modern (1994) entrance porch with hardwood double glazed windows, which leads into the assembly hall, which is towards the centre of the building and has suspended timber floor, fluorescent strip lighting, central heating radiators, and a raised curtained stage with spot lighting. To the rear of the stage is a secondary hall/meeting room, kitchen, and ancillary storage space, together with an accessible WC, and ladies and gents WC facilities. Externally, there is a generous car parking area with tarmacadam-surfaced finish, with the principal access off Market Street, with a secondary egress which has the benefit of electric sliding gates to Shiners Way.
The property is situated in a prominent position off Market Street within the centre of South Normanton, in a mixed use trading location with residential, commercial, and retail all within close proximity. Nearby occupiers include; The Hub, a joint service centre located to the rear of the site, Heron Foods, and Co-Operative.
